## Product purpose

Field Renamer helps WordPress developers and site maintainers change an ACF field name without making existing values appear to disappear. It identifies values using the stable ACF field key, previews affected records and conflicts, copies values to the new metadata name in resumable batches, verifies copied values before cutover, and preserves original metadata for recovery.

The plugin does not perform a global search-and-replace. It does not automatically delete original metadata. It does not edit theme or plugin source code. Source references are scanned read-only and reported as warnings. A normal database backup is still recommended before structural changes.

## Supported workflows

Version 1 supports eligible top-level ACF fields in database-managed field groups and a guided workflow for ACF Local JSON groups. It supports posts, pages, custom post types, WooCommerce products and postmeta-backed product variations, revisions and autosaves, and individual multisite subsites.

Repeater, Flexible Content, Group, and Clone fields are detected and blocked before data changes. Options-page, user, term, comment, widget, menu, block, and WooCommerce HPOS order storage are outside version 1. Field Renamer changes field names only; stable ACF field keys are not renamed.

## Migration safety

Each migration includes an impact preview, exact field-key matching, conflict detection, copy-before-cutover processing, read-back verification, persistent batch state, migration history, and verified rollback. Existing destination values are not overwritten. Original metadata remains until an administrator deliberately cleans it up.

Migration logs are visible to Codeprint only when a customer deliberately exports and sends one to support.
